Prayer Presence: Houses of Prayer or 24/7 Prayer Rooms

Establishing permanent lighthouses of continuous prayer & worship as a beachhead for the Kingdom of God.

A movement of the Spirit in our time that is as ancient as it is modern, establishing centers of continuous prayer and worship has become a global multi-national and multi-cultural phenomenon. As young people desert the church and AIDS orphans in Africa, a new generation is learning to pray and obey like never before. From Communist China to Washington, D.C., from the ranks of the Salvation Army to anarchic German punks, the 24/7 prayer movement has been interceding day and night since 1999 in more than 50 countries. Almost simultaneously, in Kansas City, On May 7, 1999, the International House of Prayer of Kansas City (IHOPKC) was founded by Mike Bickle and twenty full-time “intercessory missionaries,” who cried out to God in prayer with worship for thirteen hours each day. Four months later, on September 19, 1999, prayer and worship extended to the full 24/7 schedule. The International House of Prayer is an evangelical missions organization that is committed to praying for the release of the fullness of God’s power and purpose, as they actively win the lost, heal the sick, feed the poor, make disciples, and impact every sphere of society—family, education, government, economy, arts, media, religion, etc. Their vision is to work in relationship with the wider Body of Christ to engage in the Great Commission, as they seek to walk out the two great commandments to love God and people. Multitudes of houses of prayer have sprung up around the world inspired with this vision. Burn 24-7 is a movement of burning hearts all across the globe returning back to their first love and then taking that love to nations. Their core is communities unifying around the Presence of God for “burns” consisting of 12 to 100 hours of nonstop of worship and prayer at least once per month. And, these are only three of the manifold streams of houses of prayer and 24/7 prayer that God is birthing! As these houses of prayer are being birthed in communities, God’s Presence is changing the atmosphere and beginning to bring tangible changes in every sphere, personal and corporate.
